Board of Education Announces Three Appointments

The Unit 4 Board of Education approved three administrative appointments during its Jan. 10 meeting.

Jessica Lehmkuhl Named Dean of Students at Franklin STEAM Academy
Jessica (Jes) Lehmkuhl was named Dean of Students at Franklin STEAM Academy. She taught reading, honors reading, writing, and AVID, and played an active role in in many initiatives and committees since joining the District at Edison Middle School in 2015. Lehmkuhl assumed the role of Interim Dean of Students for the 2020-21 school year and returned to teaching in 2021-22 prior to accepting her position as Dean of Students at Franklin. She began her career as a long-term substitute English Teacher with Homewood-Flossmor (Ill.) and Ottawa Township (Ill.) High Schools. She spent two years as an English Teacher at Iroquois West (Gilman, Ill.) High School, three years as a middle school Language Arts Teacher with the Ball-Chatham (Chatham, Ill.) School District, and a year as a seventh grade Language Arts Teacher with Chicago Public Schools prior to relocating to Champaign.

Lehmkuhl holds a Bachelor of Science in English from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and has an additional 60 hours of coursework from the University of Illinois-Chicago. She earned a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership from Eastern Illinois University. Her appointment is effective Jan. 11.

David Bowen and Bradley Carriveau Named Assistant Directors of Transportation
David Bowen and Bradley Carriveau were named Assistant Directors of Transportation.

Bowen joins the District after serving as a Substitute Bus Driver for Hoopeston (Ill.) Area School District and a Truck Driver for East Lynn (Ill.) Fertilizer. His previous experience includes six years as Director of Transportation/Bus Driver for Ina/Spring Garden (Mt. Vernon, Ill.) School District, three years as a Bus Driver for Harrison County (Gulfport, Miss.) School District, and two years as a Bus Driver for Durham School Service in Mt. Vernon. Beyond his work in transportation, he held roles as Pastor at Klein Road Church of God in Gulfport, Bonnie (Ill.) Church of God, and First Church of God in Hoopeston. He earned his Bachelor’s in Christian Education with a minor in Church Music from Anderson (Ind.) University. He earned his Master of Arts in Christian Education from Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss. His appointment begins Jan. 11.

Carriveau joins the District from his position as Supervisory Program Specialist for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Health Administration in Des Moines, Iowa. Prior to that, he served multiple roles in the transportation field, most recently as Director of Transportation-Operations at the Rio Rancho (N.M.) School District. He also held Director of Transportation positions for Eagle County (Colo.) and Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, Colo.) School Districts and transportation roles for districts in Indiana and Wisconsin. He served in the United States Navy from 2001-10, including a supervisory role as a Leading Petty Officer from 2006-10. He earned his Bachelor’s in Technical Management from DeVry University (Indianapolis). His appointment begins Feb. 7.
