Accelerated Placement
The Champaign Unit 4 School District Board of Education believes that all students across the achievement spectrum should be challenged and supported to develop their potential. For some students needing a higher level of instruction, the District has a policy for evaluating students for possible accelerated placement.
Unit 4 offers formal acceleration for students interested in early entrance kindergarten through high school. To qualify for acceleration, students are given a series of assessments that include but are not limited to standardized tests, student achievement data, and screening processes.
What is Accelerated Placement?
Accelerated placement is placing a student at the instructional level that best matches the student's needs by allowing access to a curriculum that is usually reserved for children who are older or in higher grades. Accelerated placement options include early entrance to kindergarten and first grade, acceleration in an individual subject, and whole grade acceleration.
Please see the Accelerated Placement policy for all information related to this process. If you have questions, please contact Jonnell Baskett, Director of K-5 Teaching and Learning, at 217-351-3703 or basketjo@u4sd.org.
If you are interested in having your child tested for early entrance to kindergarten, grade acceleration, or single subject acceleration, for the Fall 2025 school year, testing will take place on the following days: June 9 & June 10, 2025.
The online application can be accessed HERE. Submissions will not be considered until the Spring. All applications must be submitted by May 5, 2025.
***Please note: These will be the only available dates for testing.
Also; all students qualifying for early entrance into kindergarten will be placed at a school where space is available, and will forfeit the Student Assignment Process. Qualifying students may be put in a kindergarten placement as late as October 1st, pending on space availability.
