School Report Cards

District and School Report Cards are helpful tools for community members and parents to learn about their local public schools in the following categories: student characteristics, the instructional setting, the school district's finances, and student performance on state assessments. These reports are created in response to the Better Schools Accountability Law of 1985 requiring public school districts to provide school report cards each year to parents (and others upon request).

This year's report cards now contain test results for a new state assessment, called the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exam, in English language arts and math. Students took this exam for the first time in Spring 2015 and will continue to do so annually as a measurement of student achievement. The PARCC assessment replaces the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) and the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE) and marks a significant change from these previous assessments.

As you review these reports, average scores will look much different and may appear lower than what you typically expected on previous state assessments. The PARCC exam uses higher expectations for what it means for students to truly master content and grade-level standards. The 2015 PARCC test scores provide a new baseline to measure student progress going forward. Schools within our District, and across the state, are continuing to do great work to teach the updated learning standards and prepare our students for the demands of college and careers. We have simply raised the bar for the type of skills and knowledge students must possess before moving onto the next grade level.

We invite you to review this information and ask questions of us as they arise. We believe that state assessments are just one measure of student success. We are confident that our District provides a top-tier education to children in our community and are committed to continuous growth and improvement. Community members and parents are also invited to visit any of our schools to learn more about the teaching and learning taking place within Unit 4 each and every day.
