This week Central High School recognized AVID Seniors as they prepare to move on to the next chapter in their lives. Keynote speaker, Brian Oviedo, a 2019 Central graduate and former AVID student came back to encourage graduates by sharing his story as a first-generation college student that learned how to ask the right questions and find answers among other scholars to help solve larger problems. Brian will graduate from the University of Illinois in May with a degree in marketing. He will begin his career at Google, a company that accepts less than 1% of applicants.
Meanwhile, 40 AVID sophomores took a trip to the Carle Illinois College of Medicine to explore other potential college-career pathways. The Student National Medical Association sponsored the Doctor-for-a-Day program which allowed students to participate in simulations that focused on cardiovascular, pulmonary, and neurology health. Students also had the opportunity to meet medical students that served as their guides.
Unit 4 Food Service catered for the event.
AVID continues to offer a system of support for scholars in Unit 4.
