Unit 4 Schools is gearing up to celebrate National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) with a series of events designed to welcome and engage families. On February 10th, schools across the District will host a variety of activities, including classroom visits, student performances, guest speakers, and community discussions. NAAPID is an opportunity for parents, guardians, and community members to connect with schools and celebrate the importance of family involvement in education.
Below is an overview of events happening at each school. Please contact your child’s school if you have any questions.

Barkstall Elementary
Guest Readers and Speakers in the Classroom: Guest readers will read books to students; Guest speakers will talk to students about various topics.
Lunch with Students: Families are invited to join their child for lunch and view Barkstall students’ creative expression projects related to the topic: “What inspires me as I learn about Black History?” on display in the cafeteria.
Student Decorations and Projects: There will be decorations and projects created by students that will be on display in the hallways and on each classroom door.
Creative Expression Contest: All students can choose to participate in writing a poem, speech, song/rap, poster, or art project around the topic:
“What inspires me as I learn about Black History?”

Welcome Table
A welcome table will be set up at the front entrance, staffed by a parent volunteer and students from the Leadership Team.
Parents will check in here and then proceed directly to classrooms for your designated CKLA Block time.
Classroom Visits
Parents will join classrooms during the portion of the CKLA Knowledge Block identified by grade-level teams.
After the CKLA time, parents are encouraged to visit the Parent Resource Room

All Day – Family members may pop into their student's classes for a short period of time.
***Family Members attending any portion of our day during NAAPID will be put into our PTA Sponsored Raffle for gift cards to Black Owned businesses. The raffle drawing will be done at the end of the day.***
