Kenwood House Reveal

September 1st, 2023

Dear Kenwood Families,

Happy Friday! We look forward to seeing everybody for Picture Day today at Kenwood. We enjoyed some great early fall weather this week and our students’ enjoyed outdoor recess for a nice change. This past week, our 1st through 5th grade students completed the MAP benchmark for Reading and Math which will help guide our instruction to the needs of our students. This coming week our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the Panorama Survey which is an assessment that measures how students perceive their own social-emotional skills such as how they manage emotions, their growth mindset and belief they can succeed. This survey also gives us important information on how students see their connections with their teachers and the school.

Parent Drop Off at School

As we begin our 4th week of school at Kenwood, parents will be asked to let students enter the building independently on their own as they know the locations of their classroom and the breakfast room. As teachers are settling into teaching their lessons every minute counts. It can be difficult for teachers to begin lessons while answering questions or checking in with parents that could be answered through a preferred method of communication with your child’s teacher. If a conference is desired then a scheduled conference can also be arranged. If you are interested in volunteering at Kenwood, we certainly welcome this and would encourage you to reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Kristen Morris at morriske@u4sd.org. We also want to ensure the safety and security of our building. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Before School Drop Off (Prior to 7:40am)

This school year the district has changed the beginning and ending times of schools across the district. Kenwood’s arrival time for students is 7:40am and our staff is not available for supervision before this time due to these changes. It is important to note that there is no supervision prior to this time and as such parents are expected to remain with students until this time. Without supervision this creates an unsafe situation for our students. Please ensure that students are supervised prior to the 7:40am start. I recognize that this is a hardship for many parents as I’ve had a chance to talk with several about this time change. I wanted to get your input on interest in before school care through the Kids Plus program. If there is interest, I can pursue this through the district. Please take a moment to fill out this survey.
