Dear Kenwood Families,
Happy Friday! We are just over a week away from the start of the school year. We look to welcome back our 1st through 5th grade students on Monday, August 12th. We were able to meet and welcome many of our new Kindergarten students and families this last week at our Kindergarten screening event at Kenwood. During this summer, our school has been going through a replacement of our heating and cooling system. We look forward to a more consistent and comfortable climate throughout our school which will greatly help our learning environment at Kenwood. You will have received an email in the past few weeks from our school regarding your 1st through 5th grade classroom placement for the upcoming school year.
I wanted to share some of the staffing changes that have taken place over the summer. In the spring, Mrs. Megginson Dicken was hired as our Assistant Principal. She has been busy getting to know families and helping to prepare for the upcoming school year. One of our most significant changes over the summer was the departure of our beloved music teacher, Ms. Kuchenbrod. Ms. Kuchenbrod has taken a music position in Chicago and she will be greatly missed by all. We were fortunate to be able to hire Mrs. Geraldi as our new music teacher. Mrs. Geraldi comes to Kenwood having taught music in Urbana, North Carolina and Michigan. She brings a wealth of experience and we are excited to have her join our Kenwood family.
We have also been fortunate to hire several new teachers. Mr. O'Donnell is one of our new 1st grade teachers and was previously a student teacher at Kenwood. Mrs. Frisbie is one of our new 3rd grade teachers and did her student teaching in Springfield. Mrs. Yasunaga is one of our new 5th grade teachers and she did her student teaching at Stratton in Champaign. Ms. Edmonson is one of our new Cross Categorical teachers and she was previously at Bottenfield in Champaign. Ms. Gray is also one of our new Cross Categorical teachers and she was previously in Unity. We also have a new Math interventionist, Mrs. Page and she joins us from Stratton.
We look forward to seeing you at our Back to School Bash on Thursday, August 8th, from 5:30 until 7:00pm where you’ll get to meet our new staff members. Have a great weekend!
