Flags of Kenwood

March 28th, 2025

Dear Kenwood Families,

Welcome back! We were happy to welcome back our students after spring break this week and hope that you had a relaxing break with your children. This week we have had a number of engaging activities this week for our students. Our Kindergarten and 2nd grade students enjoyed a visit from a naturalist from the Anita Purves Nature center learning as they learned about plants and photosynthesis. The Anita Purves Nature center naturalists will continue to visit our classes in the coming weeks visiting the rest of our grade levels. Our 4th and 5th grade students enjoyed a visit from two guests who visited Central America by motorcycle and shared their experiences. Our 5th grade students also enjoyed a visit from the Jefferson Band and Strings classes and introduced them to the possibilities of Band and Strings next year at Jefferson.

This week, our students had a surprise as we unveiled our ‘Flags of Kenwood’ display in our cafeteria. We have 41 flags representing the different countries of our students and staff at Kenwood. These flags are proudly displayed in our cafeteria. This idea originated from one of our teacher aides, Mr. Matt Morin, who did the research and helped to purchase the flags for this project. We are grateful for his ideas to help add to our welcoming environment.

Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), March 25 - April 4

This past week, we started the IAR test for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students as they wrote the Mathematics portion of the IAR test. Next week, we will complete this test with students writing the English Language Arts sessions. Thank you for getting your children to school on time so that they have been able to start the IAR test on time.

 Have a great weekend,

Dr. Trevor Nadrozny
