Kudos to Booker T. Washington Academy Teacher Samantha Cicone who received a grant for 1,000 books for students! She applied for the grant as part of an initiative by the Little Free Library and Scholastic. She said this will help bring “high-quality, age-appropriate books to areas such as ours that are considered Book Deserts.” Ms. Cicone believes it is important not only to encourage a love of reading, but to provide access to books that students are excited to read.
Central High School's Culinary Arts students wrapped up their Food Trucks Finals this week, turning ideas into reality, from concept to marketing! The students couldn't wait to show off their hard work and tasty creations!
Unit 4 is pleased to host 15+ summer school programs! They will range from District-managed programs to those hosted by our community partners like DREAAM, Camp Invention, Freedom School and iPALS. Our goal is to provide additional academic and social-emotional enrichment for our students during the summer. The start and end dates vary, but general summer school will begin on June 10th. Be sure to visit our website at champaignschools.org/summer for registration information.
Central HS Teacher is the News-Gazette Teacher of the Week!
Unit 4 Schools is pleased to serve summer meals again this year. In June and July, meals will be served at various school buildings. All meals (breakfast and lunch) are open to all children under 18 in the community—they do not need to attend any Unit 4 school to access meals. However, meals have to be eaten onsite and cannot be taken out of the school building. Please see the flyer for locations, dates and times.
Last night, the Unit 4 Board of Education honored new and recertified National Board-Certified Teachers. The National Board-Certified Teacher distinction is achieved upon successful completion of a voluntary and rigorous assessment program designed to recognize effective and accomplished teachers who meet high standards based on what teachers should know and be able to do. Certification is valid for 5 years, and teachers are encouraged to reassess every 5 years to maintain their certification.
These teachers show a great level of dedication and commitment to our students and we commend our newly certified and recertified NBCTs as well as those who pursue this distinction.
Need help with registration? Don't miss out! Join us tomorrow or next Wednesday at the Martens Center - Innovation Room from 3-7 pm. Our team will be there to assist you with any questions or registration needs. See you there! #Ready4Registration
